Turkey, Agora

Agora (market square) in the Namazgah quarter was built under Alexander the Great.

However, what has come down to us is the reconstructed buildings from the time of Marcus Aurelius, which survived the devastating earthquake in 178 AD.

In the 1920s and 1940s, archaeological excavations took place here, during which Corinthian columns and capitals were found, the remains of three gates, many fragments of statues of Neptune and Diana, as well as hundreds of Ottoman gravestones.

All this can be seen here now.
