Tunisia, The Great Mosque in Mahdia

A large mosque was built in 921. According to legend, only Mahdi himself and his confidants could pass through her monumental entrance portal.

Up to now only fragments of the building have been preserved. In 1965, the mosque was restored exactly according to the plans of the Fatimid mosque of the 10th century, but now it is closed for visits.
