Switzerland, Botanical Garden in Bern

The University Botanical Garden of Bern is famous for its unique specimens of various exotic plants, representatives of tropical and subtropical Alpine, forest, aquatic crops and equally rare specimens from the cold steppes of Central Asia. All these plants, brought from different ecological zones, are carefully grown, both in greenhouses and on the street, and for each of them certain conditions are created that are suitable for this particular specimen.

The history of the garden is long enough. The first botanical garden in Bern was opened in 1789, later, in 1804, another one arose. But the garden, located exactly at this address (Altenbergrain 21), was created only in 1862. Now it is located on an area of about two hectares, and consists of seven greenhouses, where about 6000 species of plants are collected. It has a rock garden, where you can find a large number of Swiss alpine and alpine plants. Another part, called the Palm House, is inhabited by water-loving tropical cultures (bananas, coffee, pineapples, sugar cane).

Be prepared for the fact that, perhaps, you will not be allowed inside of some greenhouses, if you look here with the children, or require from you the maximum attention to their behavior, because for any damage to valuable plants you will be responsible. Some plants can not be touched by hands, because they can have special living conditions and only experts are allowed to touch them, so that the conditions for their development and flowering are not violated.
