Philippines, Brooks Point
Brooks Point is a small town in the province of Palawan. Named after Sarawak’s first white rajah, Sir James Brooke, the city gained fame for its work in developing and promoting ecotourism. In addition, it was in the waters washing the city that the world’s largest pearl was found – Lao-Tzu, weighing 6.5 kg!
Usually tourists come to Brooks Point for a couple of days to see the sights of the city and its surroundings. So, 30 minutes from the city center there are the picturesque Sabsaban waterfalls, in the cool and clean waters of which you can swim.
Not far from the coast, in the middle of the sea, there is a fresh-water spring which has received the name Okeansky. In the area of Mainit is another source, this time hot – its waters are considered healing. Here are the Bakbakan waterfalls, which are formed when the river collapses from a cliff from a height of 50 meters.
In the city itself is worth exploring the ruins of an old lighthouse and Port Miller – a cemented water tank, which once served as a source of drinking water for residents of Brooks Point. They say that it was built by James Brooke himself. Finally, on the territory of the urban ecological park, which occupies an area of 145 hectares, is the mountain Maruyog Farms, which offers beautiful views of the city below.
